Solopharm and colleagues from the European University have begun work on isolating DNA from organic matter found in a burial site in Khakassia. Excavations were conducted last summer, and now the specialists are actively studying unique samples to uncover the secrets of the ancient inhabitants of this area.
The burial site belongs to the Tashtyk archaeological culture and dates to the 2nd–4th centuries CE.
Artem Nedoluzhko, Director of Development of the Paleogenomics Laboratory at the European University, notes that genetic studies of anthropological material will help understand the genetic origin of the Tashtyk culture carriers, as well as assess the genetic relationship between people buried in the Oglakhty burial site.
Information about the discovery and the launched works is published on the university website via the following link.
Let us recall that on June 8, 2022, the State Hermitage Museum, the European University at St. Petersburg, Solopharm and Genotek, the medical genetic center signed a quadripartite cooperation agreement.
